Biaxial Polyester geogrid is a flexible material:

Key Characteristics and Components
Material: Polyester (PET)

 

High Tensile Strength: Polyester yarns have a very high resistance to stretching, allowing them to bear

heavy loads with minimal deformation.

 

Low Creep: This is a critical property. Creep is the tendency of a material to deform permanently under a

constant load over time. Polyester has excellent long-term creep resistance, making it ideal for permanent structures

like walls and steep slopes.

 

Excellent Chemical Resistance: It is highly resistant to soil chemicals, alkalis, and microorganisms, ensuring long-term

durability in the ground.

Moderate Acid Resistance: While good against many chemicals, it can be susceptible to strong acids. In such environments,

a protective coating (like PVC) is often applied.

 

Structure: Biaxial Geogrid (BX)

The grid is manufactured with ribs running in two main directions, creating a network of apertures (openings).

The ribs are integrally formed, meaning the junctions where the ribs meet are punched-drawn or laser-welded from the same sheet of material, creating a robust and locked structure.

This structure provides balanced strength in both the machine direction (MD) and cross-machine direction (CMD), allowing it to handle stresses coming from multiple directions.

 

Surface: Coated or Uncoated

The raw polyester yarns are often coated with a polymeric material (like PVC or a flexible latex) to:

Protect against installation damage.

 

Provide enhanced resistance to ultraviolet (UV) light during storage and installation.

Improve friction with soil particles.

 

 

 

How Biaxial Polyester Geogrid Works: The Mechanism


BX Polyester Geogrids function through two primary mechanisms:

Tensile Reinforcement: Soil is strong in compression but weak in tension.

 

When a geogrid is placed within the soil, it absorbs the tensile forces that the soil cannot,

effectively "holding the soil together."

Lateral Restraint and Interlock: The open apertures of the geogrid allow soil or aggregate particles

to partially penetrate and lock into the grid. This interaction creates a mechanically stabilized composite

zone that distributes loads and confines the soil, preventing lateral spreading.
