Why This 200-30KN/M Polyester Geogrid Specification Matters ?


Economical for Massive Structures: Using a single layer of 200 kN/m geogrid can be more cost-effective

and faster to install than multiple layers of a lower-strength geogrid (e.g., 80 kN/m), reducing the number

of lifts and the amount of compaction required.

only feasible with massive concrete gravity walls or complex soil nailing/anchoring systems.

Polyester (PET) Geogrid Key Characteristics:

 

This nomenclature directly refers to the geogrid's ultimate tensile strength per meter of width,

as determined by standardized test methods (e.g., ASTM D6637).

 

200 kN/m: This is the strength in the primary, longitudinal (machine) direction.

Context: 200 kilonewtons per meter is an extremely high capacity. To visualize,

200 kN is roughly equivalent to holding a tensile force of 20,000 kg (or 20 metric tons) for

every single meter width of geogrid. This is the working direction of the geogrid.

 

30 kN/m: This is the strength in the secondary, transverse direction.

 

Context: This is significantly lower because the geogrid is engineered to be uniaxial.

This secondary strength is primarily to maintain the geogrid's geometry and integrity during

handling and installation, not for carrying primary loads.
