How To Understand: "Knitted BX PET Polyester Geogrid" ?


1. PET Polyester:

This is the base material, as discussed before. Polyester (PET - Polyethylene Terephthalate) is chosen

for its high tensile strength and, most critically, its extremely low creep characteristics, making it suitable

for permanent, heavy-load applications.

 

2. Knitted:

This describes the manufacturing process. Unlike woven or extruded geogrids, this type is produced

by a knitting process, similar in concept to textiles.

High-tenacity polyester yarns are looped and interlocked in a precise pattern on a large knitting machine.

Key Advantage of Knitting: This process creates a very stable, dimensionally secure grid that is highly resistant

to unraveling if the yarn is cut or damaged at the edge. The loops can redistribute load effectively.

 

3. BX:

This is the most specific part and indicates the aperture geometry and structure.

The "B" typically stands for "Biaxial," meaning it provides strength in two directions – both the machine

direction (longitudinal) and the cross-machine direction (transverse).

The "X" refers to the specific rectangular or square aperture shape and the nodal structure that connects the

ribs. You can think of "BX" as a common industry designation for a standard biaxial geogrid with a specific

Site & Soil Analysis: Geotechnical engineers analyze the soil conditions, loads, and required wall height.

Design: Engineers specify the geogrid type (polyester), its strength, length, and vertical spacing between layers.

The length is crucial for creating a stable reinforced zone.

 

Construction:

A leveling pad is prepared.

The first layer of wall facing units is placed.

A layer of select backfill is placed and compacted.

The polyester geogrid is rolled out over the compacted soil and connected to the wall face.
