Polyester Biaxial Geogrid Functions in Geotechnical Engineering

The main function of a biaxial geogrid is Base Reinforcement and Stabilization.

It works through two key mechanisms:

1.Lateral Confinement: The geogrid interlocks with the aggregate particles in the base course.

This confinement prevents the aggregate from shifting laterally under traffic loads,

effectively "locking" the aggregate in place. This greatly improves the structural performance of the base layer.

2.Tensile Membrane Effect: The geogrid distributes point loads (like vehicle wheels) over

a wider area of the weak subgrade.

This reduces the vertical stress on the soft soil beneath, preventing rutting and subgrade failure.

Yixing Shenzhou Geosynthetics Polyester Biaxial Geogrid  Advantages Limitations :

Multi-Directional Strength:
Ideal for planar stabilization. Lower Strength in Each Direction:
For an equivalent weight/cost, a biaxial geogrid will have a lower strength in each individual
direction compared to a uniaxial geogrid of the same material.

Excellent Soil Interlock:
The stable apertures provide superb aggregate confinement.
Not for Walls/Slopes: It is not the correct product for reinforced soil walls or steep slopes,
where the primary tensile forces are unidirectional.

Superior Creep Resistance:
Excellent for long-term, permanent applications. Sensitivity to pH: Like uniaxial polyester,
it requires a protective coating to resist hydrolysis in extreme pH environments. Proper project-specific testing is recommended.

Reduces Aggregate Thickness:
Can allow for a thinner base course layer while maintaining performance, saving on material costs.
Generally Higher Cost than polypropylene biaxial geogrids, but offers superior long-term performance.
Increases Load-Bearing Capacity of the entire soil-geogrid system.

Yixing Shenzhou Polyester Geogrids:

1.Uniaxial Polyester Geogrids:

Stronger in one direction, used for reinforcement in specific directions, such as retaining walls.

          Popular Types : 100-30 KN/M ; 200-30 KN/M ; 200-50 KN/M ; 250-50 KN/M ; 200-100 KN/M

2. Biaxial Polyester Geogrids:

Strong in both directions, suitable for applications requiring reinforcement in all directions, like embankments and slopes.

       Hot Sell Models : 80-80 KN/M ; 120-120KN/M ; 200-200KN/M; 500-500KN/M

Polyester biaxial geogrids are used in applications  various directions across a plane:

Base Reinforcement of Unpaved and Paved Roads:

This is the most common application. It is placed at the interface between the subgrade and

the base course aggregate to create a stiffer, more stable working platform and to extend the service life of the road.

Parking Lots and Construction Platforms:

Used to stabilize weak soils, allowing for construction traffic and providing a stable foundation for asphalt paving.

Railway Track Bed Stabilization:

Placed under the ballast layer to reduce settlement, confine the ballast, and reduce maintenance cycles.

Foundation Mattresses and Embankments:

Used to create a stable, reinforced platform over very soft soils for embankment construction.

Landfill Liners and Caps: Sometimes used to reinforce the soil cover over landfill cells

Comparison with Other Geogrid Types :

vs. Uniaxial Polypropylene (PP) Geogrids:

Polyester is stronger and has much better creep resistance than PP,

making it the preferred choice for permanent, critical structures.

PP is more cost-effective for smaller, temporary, or less critical applications.

vs. Biaxial Geogrids:

Biaxial geogrids have strength in two perpendicular directions and are used for

base reinforcement of roads, parking lots, and platforms where loads are applied

from multiple directions. Uniaxial is specialized for one-directional reinforcement in walls and slopes.
